COLORADO SEED INC.
Innovators of Cannabis Cultivation & Breeding Techniques
We started Colorado Seed Inc. with the intention of evolving Cannabis genetics – to provide a deeper understanding of the terpene profiles and genetic markers that are relevant; and to continuously improve breeding lines and cultivation practices for specific uses in the future. All of our products are artfully crafted and curated in Boulder, Colorado. Our licensed seeds have been developed through an intensive breeding program and proprietary screening process, designed for the high expectations and high volume requirements of both the medical and recreational Cannabis markets.

THE ART OF CULTIVATION
Sustainability, Efficiency, Authenticity
We believe in sustainability, efficiency, and authenticity; and have continued to manifest those in our day-to-day cultivation practices. With our Integrated Pest Management program and other strategic facility procedures, our team ensures the safety, success, and consistency of all of our products.

RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
Unlocking the Potential
We are committed to the development and implementation of various professional crop improvement methods in order to unlock the full potential of the Cannabis plant. With the help of our research and development platform, we’re able to identify unique and powerful genetic selections to share with the industry as we perfect our catalogue of breeding lines for the future.

Is there a more appropriate way to start the new year than starting a new seed? We don’t think so.
Add a new strain to your collection for the new year, like Aloha Limone pictured here, grown and photographed by @zilchandall

If we were to carry our seeds at a seed bank, which one would you want to see us at?
The new guidance (from our good friends at the DEA) establishes that the legality of seeds, tissue culture, and other genetic material depends solely on delta-9 🅃🄷🄲 concentration. Luckily for us (and you) our seeds have a concentration lower than 0.3% before they pop, which makes them eligible to be shipped since they don’t fall under the Controlled Substances Act.
As of right now we are NOT taking online orders, only considering our options and hearing opinions. You can still find our seeds at multiple dispensary locations around the state of Colorado.

In our last post we talked a bit about glandular trichomes, so in this post we’ll explain the different types of glandular trichomes found on the plant. Reminder: the key difference between glandular and non-glandular trichomes is that glandular trichomes possess a glandular head and secrete secondary metabolites. You can remember this easily because the glandular name comes from the Latin ‘glandis’ (little acorn), due to their rounded shape.
In female c*nn*bis flowers, three types of glandular trichomes have been described based on their surface morphology: bulbous, capitate-sessile, and capitate-stalked. Bulbous trichomes tend to be the smallest in size and produce limited specialized metabolites. Sometimes these are as little as 10 microns wide, making them difficult to see to the naked eye. Sessile trichomes are comprised of a globular head on a very short stalk and “sit” on the epidermis. Capitate-stalked trichomes (the ones you see pictured) have a globe shaped head, rise several hundred microns above the epidermal surface and are supported by a multicellular stalk. These capitate-stalked trichomes produce the greatest amount of cannabinoids and can often be seen without a magnifying glass. Female c*nn*bis plants, in particular, have large quantities of these types of trichomes.
As more recent research is being done, some studies have found that this non-specific differentiation between trichomes types can lead to misidentification of trichomes due to similar appearance of sessile and stalked morphs. A 2020 study found that sessile presenting trichomes might be a precursor developmental stage of immature stalked trichomes. These discoveries, along with other developing research, allow for improved accuracy of trichome classification which helps us further understand multiple aspects of the plant.

Why is Observing Trichomes Important When Breeding?
Glandular trichomes are found on the surface of about 30% of all vascular plants, cannabis being one of them. For cannabis plants, they serve as a natural defense mechanism to protect the plant from harm caused by animals, insects, fungi and UV overexposure. They create and store the majority of the plant’s cannabinoids and terpenes, essentially making them responsible for what many people enjoy about cannabis. When we’re breeding with hashmaking in mind, looking at trichomes is especially important. This is because we’re trying to separate the trichome heads from the stalks when we make solventless concentrates. In general, the more abundant the trichomes and the easier the trichome heads separate from the stalk without popping, the better the strain is for washing. This is why you might notice that certain strains, like GMO are more commonly found in rosin forms while other strains are rarely made into solventless products.
In our next post, we’ll explain the differences between the various types of trichomes found on the plant and why they matter!

🚨🌱Pheno-Hunting🌱🚨
The hunt is on. This round we’re continuing our search for the best genetics for hash making. Popped plenty of new seeds we’ve created along with some new cuts we brought in, can’t wait to see how they turn out in our environment.
With the advent of @goldminecolorado recently our attention has been focused on breeding for hash , but we have no intention of stopping our lab experiments and data collection that’s set us apart. Stay tuned for the latest and greatest coming soon.
